I Think Id Really Love Galaxy S24s AI Features If I Actually Liked Samsungs Apps

It's been a few weeks, but artificial intelligence has become the main buzz of 2024, and the Samsung Galaxy S24 series is betting big on the technology. And the awesome thing is that the Galaxy AI suite is really great , but the problem is that the Samsung apps aren't what I want to use.

Samsung has included several artificial intelligence features in the Galaxy S24, S24+ and Galaxy S24 Ultra. Some run on-device, others run in the cloud with Google's Gemini models, but the entire suite relies on Samsung's expertise. Chat Assistant is available in Samsung Keyboard, Transcribe Assistant is available in Samsung Voice Recorder apps, etc.

I've been testing the Galaxy S24 Ultra over the past few days and I'm very happy with the work Samsung has done on these AI features. However, I'd probably appreciate them more if they weren't bundled into apps I don't want to use.

My main example is Samsung Chat's helpful features. These features allow you to translate messages in any messaging app, better write your messages, or help with spelling and grammar. To Samsung's credit, it works great! But you know what doesn't work so well? Samsung keyboard! Autocorrect is boring because it always ignores me when I undo "edit" and it lacks simple features that I've come to rely on after years of using Gboard, such as inserting GIFs. I force myself to use the Samsung keyboard to test these AI features, but I really don't want to. And the speech-to-text conversion is incredibly bad. Google's voice-to-text feature on Pixel phones beats everything else, but when I forced myself to use Samsung's keyboard, I had some really bad and obscure typos this week.

Another area I have issues with Samsung apps is the Gallery app.

Gallery has a lot of really cool AI, but the app doesn't save every photo I take on other devices like Google Photos, so I don't see myself wanting to use it. Samsung Gallery is similar to OneDrive, which is a good thing, but given Samsung's close partnership with Google, I'm actually a bit disappointed that I can't do the same with Google Photos (although I'm sure Google is partly to blame for this). . ). .

Likewise, I'd like to use Samsung Notes because its AI summation seems useful, but since it's not available on non-Galaxy devices, that's just not going to happen.

Samsung software isn't necessarily bad , but it's not for me. These AI features are really cool, but they don't do much to improve the apps that come with them, which is why I think Samsung has an uphill battle to change user behavior around these features. This will be an especially tough sell if these features are to be paid for in the future.

what do you think? Do you use Samsung Apps? Let's discuss!

Google has introduced Circle to search for a replacement for Bard Assistant

. Alongside the launch of the Galaxy S24 this week, Google announced Circle to Search, a new feature for the Galaxy S24 and Pixel 8 series, with more devices coming later. Long pressing the home button or the gesture bar will launch a lens-like function that lets you rotate objects on the screen for effect. This is a very nice feature!

Meanwhile, Google Assistant's next step, Bard Assistant, may not be without some changes. As our APK Insight team discovered, the Bard Assistant brand is gone, and now it's all about Bard.

Google continues to work with the Tensor G5 in Taiwan

. According to a new report out of Taiwan this week, Google is looking for a test partner in Taiwan to finalize the Tensor G5 process that will be used in the future Pixel. The new chip will be Google's first fully custom design, made by TSMC rather than Samsung.
