FKA Twigs Teases Techno Influence For New Album
FKA Twigs teases a new tech-inspired album
The 36-year-old musician updated fans on the music he's been working on, revealing he's working on a new recording studio "coming this year" with fellow electronic musician Korelas.
Speaking on a Discord server on Tuesday (24/01/16) – his birthday – he said: “I went to Prague for a few summers and fell in love with techno music.
“The album is not techno, but the soul is really there.”
The influence of electronic music is so felt in his upcoming set – which will be his first full set since 2019's Magdalena – that he mentions an electronic double-header elsewhere in the conversation.
When asked what kind of music he listens to, he said: “I'm almost finishing my album, so I don't listen to a lot of music.” He added: “I like Two Shells.”
While FKA Twigs — real name Tahlia Barnett — worked with some “talented friends” on the new LP, the album doesn’t feature as many collaborators as her 2022 mixtape “CAPRISONGS.”
“Caprisongs was a difficult collaboration, and I don’t like to repeat myself,” he said.
At the time, he described the album as a way to document his journey "back to music and myself."
At the time, he posted alongside the artwork on Instagram: “Hey, I put you on the mixtape because when I hear you I feel and when I feel...
“CAPRISONGS is about coming back to myself through my amazing partners and friends.”
In October, the "Killer" singer insisted she wouldn't be releasing new music for a while after about 85 of her demos were leaked online.
“Someone hacked and deleted 85 of my demos,” he announced on his Instagram Story at the time.
"Okay. No new songs for a while. (sic)."
