Encounter With TECNO Mobile Pioneer
Yaw Ampofo Ankrah with TECNO Chairman George Chu
Despite his wealth and ability, George Cho is known to be very short and some have suggested that he is media shy.
The founder and chairman of Techno Techcommunications can be easily associated as an authoritative primary school teacher who gently motivates his students without fuss or fuss.
He prefers to talk about tools, business technology and numbers; Instead, it allows a skilled workforce of employees, consultants and managers to follow a model that has worked so well so far.
I have to admit that at first I had a hard time finding the right questions to ask a guy. After all, it's not often that we get to sit around the table with a billionaire.
But as soon as I found myself, it went back to factory settings.
I asked Mr. Zhou if he always dreamed of creating a big brand called TECNO?
"I didn't build it alone. It's always a team effort. That's our philosophy."
It was clear that he did not want to talk about his work, but about himself. A common trait among big winners is always looking to find, acquire or create the next big thing.
According to Forbes, TECNO has established itself as one of the leading smartphone vendors in African markets such as Nigeria, Ghana, Tanzania, Egypt, Kenya and Cameroon.
Smart growth and customer loyalty were key to sustaining TECNO Mobile's momentum as it began to enter new markets such as Latin America, Southeast Asia, India and the Middle East.
The battalion was born and raised in Kaiping, a city of over 600,000 in southern China's Guangdong province.
It's no secret that Mr. Chu started from scratch with a clear vision and has grown through the ranks at an alarming rate.
Zhou has earned his status and entrepreneurial status in a special class of tech gurus.
Ahead of Singapore's various startup-related programs, expectations were high as some of the industry's smartest tech event organizers put on a spectacular show.
Each session attracted a large number of participants, providing attendees with excellent opportunities to meet and interact with industry players, managers, CEOs and media representatives from five continents.
George Chu's expanding empire includes Hong Kong-based Transition Holdings. It produces excellent mobile phones and high quality electronic devices.
Zhou is also the founder of Zima Tech, a wireless company designed specifically for data collection.
Addressing a gathering of Asian business leaders, the technology expert chose to commend Techno Mobile's continental pioneers and partners, including Ghana's Maxwell Tachi Franco Trading and Kumasi retailer Mitchfreem. In his personal life, he is known as Michael Osei Frimpong.
The future of techno has been showcased in Singapore over a series of nights, a sobering reflection and tribute to the pioneers of the African continent and their contributions to the techno brand in Ghana and beyond.
The biggest attraction for me was a few minutes of conversation with George Chu, which made me realize the simplicity and humility of this man in addition to his great intelligence.
