Delicious Plate said the $2 million funding will help it expand its services in Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Chennai and Delhi.
Founded in 2022 by Bala Hariharan, the B2B startup offers subscription catering services to schools.
Delicious Plate currently serves over 3,000 students in over 30 schools in Bengaluru and plans to expand it to over 20,000 students next year.
Delicious Plate, a subscription food service provider, announced Tuesday (August 22) that it has raised $2 million in funding from K12 education services platform Techno Services.
The startup said that it will use these funds to expand its presence in the country by entering new cities.
Founded in 2022 by Bala Hariharan, the B2B startup offers subscription catering services to schools. Currently there are more than 3000 students from more than 30 schools in Bangalore.
In a statement, Delicious Plate said the new funding will help it expand its services in Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Chennai and Delhi. By next year, the startup plans to include more than 100 schools, giving more than 20,000 students access to education. It also aims to establish a pan-India presence within three years.
Commenting on the fundraising, founder Hariharan said, “So far we have received positive feedback from parents and we want to provide the most suitable food to meet all the nutritional needs of students during their growing years. With this funding, we are confident that we will be able to expand our services in different cities and further achieve our goals.
Investor K12 Techno Services says there is a huge gap in the market for providing quality nutritious meals to schools, which Yummy Plates is trying to fill. “As we believe in providing the best environment for the holistic development of students, our goals are aligned with the delicious plates. We are excited to partner with them and are sure they will continue to grow in leaps and bounds,” said Joy DeCosta, CEO of K12 Techno Services.
It competes with other subscription meal providers such as Delicious Plate, My Hug Box, EatFit and Healthy Kitchen.
The fundraising comes at a time when funding for startups is tight this winter. According to the Inc42 Indian Tech Startup Funding Report for the first half of 2023 , the total funding raised by Indian startups in the first half of 2023 fell from $19 billion in the first half of 2023 to $5.4 billion . Meanwhile, seed funding fell from $1.4 billion last year to $479 million in the first half of 2023.
