OPPO Find X7 Ultra Review: Should You Buy It?
Discover OPPO X7 Ultra

OPPO proves once again that it has what it takes to build one of the best smartphone hardware packages and continue to take mobile photography to the next level. The Find X7 Ultra has us excited about the return of the best of OPPO to the Western market. We'd be happy to recommend an import if you want a good phone. But once you get past the network compatibility issues and start looking for software solutions to other problems, you won't be disappointed.

OPPO Find X7 Ultra Review:

  • What's in Brief? OPPO Find X7 Ultra is the latest flagship in OPPO's Find series. However, the serious X6 Pro Ultra 2023 promises great photography features without delving into the other specs you'd expect from a high-end premium phone.
  • Where can you buy it? OPPO Find X7 Ultra is available in China. It is possible to import the phone, but OPPO has no plans to officially bring the phone to Western markets.
  • How much does it cost? OPPO charges 5,999 yuan (~$834) for the base model of the Find X7 Ultra. You can pick up the phone at select retailers for around $1,000.
  • How do we test it? I tested the OPPO Find X7 Ultra for six days. The review section is provided by OPPO.
  • Is it worth it? OPPO has made the best camera phone of all time with the Find X7 Ultra. The display, charging options and unique design are eye-catching and make this a fantastic flagship product that everyone should pay attention to. However, without an official Western sales site and a Chinese version of the Color OS, we unfortunately cannot recommend this phone to an international audience.

OPPO Find X7 Ultra: the best camera phone?

I was very impressed with the camera quality and versatility of the OPPO Find X6 Pro Unfortunately, the availability of this phone is very limited, but its photography capabilities make it worth importing for serious mobile photographers. Almost. OPPO Find X7 Ultra extends its winning formula and introduces a camera with 6x periscope zoom. It's another 50MP sensor - four in total - although it's smaller at 1/2.51in. The 2.8x zoom has a larger 1/1.56-inch sensor and a smaller f/4.3 aperture than other mobile lenses. Obviously, it's hard to fit a big telephoto zoom into a phone, but even though OPPO claims it's a "quad main camera", I don't expect the additional periscope camera to be as good as the other three .

However, its long-range specs are still on par with the best in the industry, and OPPO says the four high-resolution cameras offer versatility you won't find anywhere else, notably precise focal points and zero zoom dependency digitally. Let's talk about some examples. I also used the tested Google Pixel 8 Pro and the new Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra to see how the phones perform.

Like the Find X6 Pro, color, detail, exposure and white balance are very, very good on all four rear lenses. Even though the phone doesn't have a night mode, it works surprisingly well in low light conditions. But I apologize for being so pedantic: contrast and saturation can be a little high in some scenes, HDR is not as strong as that of the Galaxy S24 Ultra, and the dynamic range of the 6x periscope is not great not. Three more lenses to the light. But all this will not ruin your image.

My biggest criticism is the level of chromatic aberration in broad daylight, a sign that the aperture is a bit too wide. Similarly, there is some distortion at the edges of the ultra-wide lens, which again indicates that you have reached the limits of such a small lens. However, you'll rarely get bad photos no matter what lens you use, and that's more than I can say for any other smartphone camera I've used.

I like to zoom when I take pictures and spend a lot of time switching between lenses. I never worried that zooming to the wrong level would result in poor image quality. In fact, this year with the new 6x periscope camera, I feel more confident taking the phone to longer distances.

I find the new second periscope lens with 10x magnification and also smaller to keep up with the competition at distance very useful. But you also get the benefit of a 65mm lens for macro shots and portraits, which you won't get as well on Google and Samsung. Even if you're not a fan of the Hasselblad on-camera image processing (I'm a user of the latest low-saturation implementations), what sets this camera setup apart is the consistency of the lenses.

Speaking of which: the Find It may be a bit softer than the competition, but if you primarily use the selfie camera, you'll always be greeted with pleasant lighting and exposure, good detail but not too sharp skin textures and shades. rich skin. Combined with the natural bokeh and 65mm focal length of the 2.8x zoom lens, the Find X7 Ultra's portraits are worthy of a simple mirrorless camera. Especially compared to the overpowered Pixel 8 Pro or the overpowered Galaxy S24 Ultra. It's a world away from the broken face of an iPhone. If you love taking photos of friends and family, the Find X7 Ultra is a winner.

While the pursuit of perfection may be endless, with Find X7 Ultra, OPPO is closer to achieving that goal than anyone else. Without a doubt, this phone has one of the most consistent and versatile camera packages on the market. Combined with 4K60 shooting capabilities on all lenses, powerful video stabilization and 10-bit Dolby Vision HDR, Find

OPPO Find Camera They feature a stunning AMOLED screen with a 120Hz dynamic refresh rate, a luxurious vegan leather cover on the back, well-known OPPO features such as 100W wired SuperVoice and 50W wireless fast charging W, IP68- protection and fast Snapdragon Gen 3 processor.

On paper, the hardware is top notch and the phone is equally elegant. The artificial leather is comfortable to hold and OPPO makes the live camera body look elegant. This is a truly impressive smartphone.

However, we had doubts about the implementation of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 phone. First, we couldn't install the Play Store benchmark app on our test device, and the fake APK we installed performed poorly on GeekBench 6 and PCMark 3.0 unless you put your phone in high performance mode. Worse, our graphics stress test resulted in the phone displaying an overheating message and draining a lot of battery. That said, I had no problems running apps and games on the phone, but our results suggest that the Find X7 Ultra may struggle to meet user demands in the long run.

The installed Chinese Color OS 14 (Android 14) is also disappointing. I ended up using Baidu and the FineQ keyboard to install the Play Store and a collection of apps I was familiar with, but it was a frustrating experience. Even after many attempts, it is not possible to remove all the applications and services that are useless to the Western public. Attention importers. Despite these obstacles, Color OS 14 runs perfectly on top of Android 14, offering plenty of customization options and somewhat disappointing battery management.

The OPPO Find X7 Ultra offers the best hardware that we would like to see in many markets.

The OPPO Find's 5,000mAh battery is enough to see users through the day, but our benchmarks show that the Find X7 Ultra doesn't have the longest battery life compared to high-end superphones. When we used gaming benchmarks, battery consumption was an issue, but the GPU was able to run at full speed, which is not the case for most games. However, Color OS's aggressive background-disabling feature mentioned above may make it easier for you to use on day two. When you need to charge it, the phone can draw 85W of power from the wall outlet to fully charge in 30 minutes. Quickly.

The overall software setup and lack of warranty make the OPPO Find X7 Ultra impossible to recommend to international consumers despite its solid hardware package. The recent deal between OPPO and Nokia means that the flagship smartphone is expected to return to Western markets soon.
