Luckily I only had five minutes and he was able to take me to the hospital. He came running and called the doctors and the doctors immediately came and started working,” he added.

At the hospital it was discovered that he had suffered a heart attack due to a complete blockage in one of his arteries. He was then taken to the catheterization lab at the hospital's cardiac center, where he underwent surgery to remove the blocked artery. He spent six days in the cardiovascular ward recovering before returning home. He will receive post-operative treatment in hospital as part of his ongoing rehabilitation.

Mr Waffam said the incident shocked everyone.

“It was a bit of a shock because I'm not overweight and I try to stay in shape so I don't have any risk factors. In fact, it was a shock for everyone, including my family.

He also thanked his wife and the hospital staff for their care and support. “The care I received was exceptional. I cannot praise the staff enough. I am also very grateful to my wife for taking me to the hospital because it was a shock for her too. They were very busy hours. It's nice to know that the staff is always there if you need help in the emergency room. The staff were absolutely fantastic and I just want to thank them.”
