Celebrating a decade of Hulaween fun, this year's festival spared no expense in the lineup, ensuring some of the EDM community's best artists were on hand to bring life and light to the jungles of North Florida. Here are The Signal's top ten shows to see in Hulawin this Halloween weekend and don't miss them.
- Great desert
Singer and instrumentalist Big Wild is a pioneer in the world of electronic dance music. Daring to mix musical genres such as indie, electronic, pop and more, Big Wild creates music that sounds fluid and sublime. In his most popular song, "6 to 9", he produces sounds that are almost impossible not to dance to. His genre-defying music keeps listeners on their toes as many of his songs are filled with completely different sounds and ideas. Masters of big builds and beats, Big Wild create funk and psychedelic music that captivates listeners, making them the perfect headliner for Hulaween.
2. Transmission
Dispatch, one of the most successful rock bands to break out of the mainstream, has over 25 years of experience in the music industry. The band's life experiences, as well as their deep interest in divisive political climates, set their music apart from many other artists on this year's Helween lineup. The five-piece released their eighth album, Break Our Fall, in the summer of 2022, when they released OAR, another popular rock band. With deeply emotional lyrics and personal anecdotes sprinkled throughout the songs, this year's Hulaween show is not to be missed for fans of smooth, heartfelt rock music.
3. Goose
With their friendly small town and indie/folk vibe, Goose became popular as fans discovered that their catchy, pop-friendly music was a hit with anyone who really enjoyed groove music. The American jam band's quirky riffs and soothing lyrics transport listeners to a dimension of alternative musical trance. As they continue to climb the charts, the band remains true to their roots and original sound, as seen on their surprise EP Autumn Crossing, released last September.
4. John Summitt
Chicago native John Summitt has grown rapidly in the global electronic dance community in recent years, reaching nearly five million monthly listeners on Spotify last year. The combination of deep house, techno and progressive house creates the perfect space for an intense dance party that can last all night, perfect for Halloween fans.
5. Monte Gioia
With strong influences from mountain folk music and a touch of alternative indie music, Mountain Joy brings a blend of soothing lyrics and melodies to Holawin. With popular songs like "Astrovan," which pokes fun at Jesus, who loves fools, and "Strangers," which takes a more serious look at what it's like to find love in a strange place. This Philadelphia-based group incorporates themes of life, love and tragedy into their music, which appeals to many listeners, while maintaining a predominantly upbeat musical style.
6. Beautiful lights
After a five-year hiatus from the music scene, Pretty Lights returned, stronger than ever, at this year's Hulaween, taking the stage and performing a series of songs that launched the dubtron hip-hop scene, a genre unexplored characterized by real-time statement and creativity, resulting in a highly innovative electronic dance music experience. In addition to the musical aspect of their performances, Pretty Lights also creates stunning light shows to accompany their performances, providing an unforgettable experience.
7. Mino
Hip-hop artist Smino creates space for experimentation in his music, bringing new and innovative sounds to modern hip-hop. With two studio albums, Smino is on the rise and continues to develop his career. The rapper has collaborated with many notable artists, including J. Cole, who was featured on his hit single "90 Proof." With a touch of comedy and powerful lyrics about love, Smino presents Hallavin's truly unique work.
8. Blue date display
With hits like "Figure it Out" and "Vintage", Blue Detiger is at the forefront of the alternative indie pop scene, making a name for himself as a fine bassist, DJ and singer. Blue Dittiger was born and raised in New York City and played in many bands from a young age, but rose to fame in 2020 when he began writing and producing his own music. He currently has approximately 120 million streams worldwide and continues to gain fame by traveling, touring and performing at major festivals around the world.
9. Boogie T.
Since the age of eight, EDM artist Boogie T has been making music true to his South Louisiana swamp roots. His music combines funk, riddim, dubstep and more to create energetic, intense, loud and scratchy electronic dance music that gets audiences swaying and tapping their feet. In addition to DJing, Boogie T also displays his vast musical abilities by playing a variety of instruments during his performances, including guitar, piano and bass, as well as incorporating lyrics, singing and rapping.
