Oppo Is Picking Up The Alert Slider From OnePlus Phones
After Oppo's software and hardware made its way onto OnePlus devices, now there's one element that's going in a different direction. The Oppo Find N3 Flip is the first device from Oppo to feature a notification slider.
The Oppo Find N3 Flip is a modest improvement over its predecessor, but there's one feature we didn't expect. Oppo's new foldable phone will be the first foldable phone with a notification slider, a feature taken directly from OnePlus devices.
OnePlus has offered an alert slider since the launch of the OnePlus Two in 2014, and only a handful of devices (OnePlus X, OnePlus 10T, and a few northern variants) lacked the feature. The slider gives users a touch switch to switch between ring, vibrate and silent modes. It's similar to the iPhone switch, but a little more flexible to use.
The Find N3 Flip has a notification slider on the left side, the switch of which can be seen in one of the images of the Oppo device (as detailed below). Oppo on its China website calls the notification slider (translated) a "three-step button" and describes it as follows:
It slides smoothly and resists turbulence very well.
It looks like an alarm clock slider to me.
As with OnePlus devices, the notification slider on the Oppo Find N3 Flip can switch between ring, silent and vibrate modes. It will be interesting to see how the Find N3 Flip handles orientation when the switch is closed, when the Find N3 Flip is launched globally, when the location changes the controls.
It's unclear if Oppo plans to use the alert slider in future releases, but it would certainly make sense. OnePlus getting some of Oppo's best features is a really good move for Oppo to finally take advantage of OnePlus' best hardware.
The OnePlus Two has been updated to correct that it is the first device to feature a notification slider.
