Redmi Pad review: Defying the "curse of compromise" in the budget tablet segment
We know the title and first few lines are dead giveaways, but they pretty much sum up the Redmi Pad. It's been a while since we last had a product that made complete and utter no sense in terms of value for money. Products are rare. With great prices, there are some deals. Corners are cut here and there. There is definitely a problem here. Some features are missing and some hardware may not be ready from scratch. We've been using the Redmi Pad for about a week and haven't noticed any issues. Yes, we can always pick this and that, but overall it's as close to a perfect price point as we've seen in a long time.

Redmi Pad: Not defined as a budget card either.
This elegant design comes with excellent specifications that far outweigh the price of the device. The 10.6-inch 10-bit LCD screen is incredibly bright and colorful with 2K resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. With four speakers (two on the top of the tablet and two on the bottom) and support for Dolby Atmos, the Redmi Pad is great for watching videos and shows. It is a tool. The display handles images and videos well, and the speakers are powerful enough to fill a small room with high quality distortion sound. There's no 3.5mm audio jack though, which is a bit of a shame at this price as most people still use wired headphones.
The MediaTek Helio G99 chip makes the Redmi Pad a great gaming option. This is a relatively new processor that is far superior to anything the competition has to offer and solves the biggest problem with budget tablets: performance. The Helio G99 is not only better than the popular Helio G96 that we saw in the Redmi Note 11 Pro earlier this year, but it also seems to be able to handle many mid-range phones on the Dimensity 700 chip. In fact, it looks like the famous Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 (in the Redmi Note 11 Pro Plus, which starts at Rs 20,000). The tablet can run many games at low settings and many at high settings. Redmi Pad: Also the performance side
Multitasking on the Redmi Pad also works very well. The Redmi Pad runs MIUI 13 on top of Android 12, which is actually a step away from the Xiaomi Pad 5, which is now receiving Android 12 with an update. As we wrote in our Xiaomi Pad 5 review, we liked Xiaomi's setup on the tablet interface and it works well on the Redmi Pad as well. Some complain that it is too similar to the iPad operating system; We don't think we have much to complain about.
You can run multiple apps, switch between them, and if you switch to the two main RAM options (4GB/128GB and 6GB/128GB, the base 3GB won't work), you can run apps side-by-side on the screen. It has floating windows to control the application while working from Run Mode section and others. We do not recommend you to overdo it (not the Xiaomi Pad 5), but in general it works very well. Talking about performance, the Redmi Pad doesn't have a fingerprint scanner, but it does have a very fast face recognition. However, you will need a password for financial transactions.
