- Samsung is rolling out an update for the Quick Share app on Galaxy devices.
- The update adds support for Google Nearby Share.
- Sharing with nearby devices that support sharing via the Samsung Quick Share app still doesn't work.
We're getting closer every day to the time when Samsung's Quick Share and Google's Near Share will merge into one file sharing feature called Quick Share. Samsung seems to have taken the next step towards that future, or maybe it would be better to say half a step.
According to Telegram's Mishal Rahman, Samsung is rolling out an update to its Quick Share app. The update, which will apply to older Galaxy devices, will reportedly bring Near Share support to Samsung's solution. This version of the app is pre-installed on the Galaxy S24 series.
Although the latest version of Quick Share on Samsung devices now supports nearby sharing, it seems that the protocol does not work yet. Rahman said that despite the changes noted in the changelog, users who received the update are reporting that devices that support Side Sharing do not support it. currently works with Quick Share.
In addition, environmental stocks can still be found on the exchange. But this option will disappear on Samsung devices after applying the update and enabling the nearby sharing feature in Quick Share. Rahman also added that the file upload limit has been increased from 3GB to 5GB while generating QR codes and sharing with contacts.
Samsung also updated the Quick Share app for Windows yesterday. However, it seems that Samsung only updated the logo and didn't change anything else. It's unclear if Samsung plans to offer nearby sharing support in its desktop apps as well.
