Artist Spotlight: Idioteque Continues To Push Boundaries
On the other side of the Atlantic, in London, there lives a promising producer in the alternative electronic scene *Iditeque.
Like many artists, he started by posting his music on *SoundCloud. His first foray into music was a free download of a single called "Vendetta" on a music-sharing service. "Vendetta" debuted at 140, a style of electronic music with 140 beats per minute and was inspired by genres such as dubstep, techno, and drum and bass. It was very well received and because of this the music continued to grow.
Following the success of "Vendetta", Idioteque began releasing more music in 2020, including the single "Ethics". It was released on the dubstep scene called DUPLOC and quickly became a hit on the sound scene. In the latter part of the hymn, which contains static chants and interrupted church bells. The faded soundtrack was selected from the stage for "DUPLOC SELECTS".
Since the success of his debut in 2020, Idioteque has continued to release music. He released his debut EP *'Keeping Alive=Killing'' in 2022. He was noted as one of his early works, providing lyrics and vocals on the song "Wrong Back" by Sheba K. Odyssey, as well as the enigmatic Toulouse spoken word poem in "Sea View 9".
The rising producer continued to drop singles. One, known as "Richie Aprile," even managed to appear in Spotify's editor with the help of singer and collaborator Issa Cyn.
However, his two most recent releases, "Brand New Page (feat. *Reptile B)" and "Dedication (feat. *Swan Diver)" have proven to be some of his best work to date.
"Brand New Page" combines synths, guitars and a little spacey drumming to create instrumentals. It was then hidden under verses by British rapper Reptile B. That's when the composition takes a dark turn, with more melancholic choruses and an idiotic bridge, making it a fantastic, well-structured track.
"This song comes from a poem I wrote recently, which became the central theme of the song," the musician said in a statement on Instagram.
"During some of the tumultuous years that affected us all, I was pondering the gradual erosion of childhood enthusiasm and innocence, coupled with the complex evolution of adulthood. It felt like a new conversation with his younger, more pure self. Turned to paper, I drew parallels between the life cycles of humans and trees; in our existence. They are about the challenges we face and how these experiences shape us.
Growing up isn't easy, and it's hard to remember the innocence of your youth without feeling some nostalgia for the poor everyday life of adulthood, and the song captures that feeling beautifully.
On the other hand, "Offering" has been described as a new take on trip-hop, or a subgenre of music that fuses hip-hop, electronic and psychedelic elements to create a spacey, lo-fi feel.
Idiotech uses these elements for personalization, with repetitive drum beats, exciting sound effects and smooth, low bass. These are taken further with acoustic guitar riffs and a steady vocal signature.
"As time goes on, I feel like I'm getting closer and closer to the music I want to create. Creating my own sound, seeing my major influences come through, and feeling more creative than ever. Now, using more of my guitar work and organic recording methods, I think it's important to continue to feel challenged and evolved." I think, and it's not just about doing the same thing over and over again," the musician captioned another post on Instagram.
All, of course, guided by the eloquent hand of Georgian artist Swan Diver, with his beautiful and haunting lyrics and melancholic voice. Lyrical imagery is one of the song's strengths, and upon closer inspection of Swan Diver's Spotify page, it's not so surprising that love lyrics are cited as a major inspiration.
The poems depict a battle between light and darkness and resistance to change representing inner turmoil and its relationship to pain in the narrator. The narrator wants to escape from the pain in his life, but he is so used to it that love is no longer an option. This is beautifully reflected in the room's artwork, which was conceived by artist Jesse Kilgore.
The electronic producer is also enjoying success outside of the studio, having performed at the UK's Project 6 festival earlier this year.
It's clear that Idioteque is growing fast and is set to be a manufacturer to watch in the electronic landscape in the coming years.
