Oppo Reno 10 Pro Plus Brings This Premium Feature For Fraction Of The Price
The flagship Oppo Find X6 Pro has one of the best zoom cameras of any smartphone this year. The periscope lens gives you access to new angles that you wouldn't normally get with a standard or ultra-wide-angle camera. However, this feature is still limited to flagship phones like the Galaxy S23 Ultra, Xiaomi 13 Pro, and Oppo's Find X6 Pro.
That's why you should pay attention to the Oppo Reno 10 Pro Plus. This is one of the few phones that offers a periscope camera for under $660/INR 55,000.
The Reno 10 Pro Plus has a 64MP telephoto lens with f/2.5 aperture and optical image stabilization (OIS), along with a 50MP main camera and an 8MP wide-angle sensor. It supports 3x optical zoom and 120x digital zoom, and I got impressive results at 6x zoom and usable images at 30x zoom. If you like photographing pets, going to concerts, or taking architectural photos, the periscope camera is a real treat.
Last week I went to Lucky Ali's concert in Delhi and brought my Oppo Reno 10 Pro Plus. I use the iPhone 14 Pro Max as my main phone, which only offers 3x optical zoom and 15x digital zoom; I was disappointed. But I wasn't sure the Reno would outperform the iPhone in digital zoom. Here is a comparison between them.
Three things. First, the Oppo Reno 10 Pro Plus offers 30x digital zoom results compared to competing phones at 2.5 times the price. Second, a Reno image at 30x zoom looks better on social media than an iPhone image at 15x zoom. Thirdly, Oppo uses artificial intelligence to improve the image, which is evident in the details of the singer's face. The first image appears sharper (but lacks detail) and can be used at 30x. I posted two photos on my Instagram stories and the Reno 10 Pro Plus got a vote of confidence.
It's surprising how good the digital zoom on the Oppo Reno 10 Pro Plus is for the price. By the way, he also makes fantastic portraits (examples below).
Edge detection, color detection, and background blurring are top-notch. I think Oppo uses the same camera algorithm in the Reno 10 Pro Plus and Find X6 Pro. Although the images are not as detailed as the flagship devices, they are surprisingly good. As far as ultra-wide cameras go, it's average at best.
Is the camera and the rest of the phone enough?
The Oppo Reno 10 Pro Plus features a 6.74-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 1,400 nits peak brightness for HDR content on Amazon Prime. I appreciate the bright screen on offer here, along with the placement of good stereo speakers. It's also comfortable to hold thanks to its slim design. At 194 grams, it's not exactly light, but it's certainly one of the lightest phones with a periscope camera.
The Reno 10 Pro Plus is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset based on TSMC's 4nm process. It has 12 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256 GB of UFS 3.1 internal storage. I didn't notice any slowdown or lag during daily use. For gamers, Reno 10 Pro Plus supports Ultra HD graphics and Ultra frame rate in BGMI. However, it is worth noting that the phone overheats after 30 minutes of gaming with HDR graphics and frame rates.
The phone runs Color OS 13 based on Android 13. My only concern with this phone is receiving notifications from apps like Game Center and App Market that I haven't even touched since setting up the phone. While they can be easily turned off, I don't like receiving random notifications throughout the day.
It also has many non-Google apps and games pre-installed, which some might consider "bloatware." However, some may find apps like Facebook, Dailyhunt, PhonePe, and Snapchat useful. On the other hand, I like Color OS's animations and multitasking.
Oppo Reno 10 Plus is equipped with a 5000 mAh battery. In my experience, it lasted all day with moderate use, but I struggled to last all day when taking a lot of photos or browsing. It wasn't a big deal though, as with the 100W SuperVOOC charger, it can charge from zero to full power in 25 minutes.
Oppo Reno 10 Pro Plus. How does it compare to the competition?
If you're looking for a gaming phone, the iQOO 11 is a better deal, while the OnePlus 11 seems more balanced. However, if you want a good zoom camera but can't spend more than INR 55,000, this is the phone for you.
The Oppo Reno 10 Pro Plus offers an excellent display, comfortable hand feel, good performance and battery life, and an impressive telephoto lens. You should take some time to delete apps you won't use and turn off App Market and Game Center notifications. But at INR 54,999, the Reno 10 Pro Plus is a bargain.
