Chinese smartphone maker Vivo has unveiled its own enhanced V3 imaging chip as part of its broader effort to improve its technological prowess and differentiate itself from stiff competition.

The 6nm V3 chip comes after Vivo ranked first in the Chinese smartphone market in the second quarter of this year despite the overall market downturn.

"At Vivo, we are committed to professional imaging that puts people first," said Yu Ming, vice president of imaging at Vivo. "To do this, we are constantly improving our knowledge of optics, computation and algorithms. Creating imaging capabilities that are comparable to professional imaging equipment."

According to him, the company's goal is to allow users to recreate what the human eye sees and make professional photography more accessible to everyone.

The latest V3 chip features a newly developed multi-temporal AI-ISP architecture and second-generation Frame Information Tunneling (FIT) technology, which Vivo says offers a better user experience and delivers 4K cinematic bokeh and aesthetic blur quality. . in out-of-focus areas of the image produced by the lens.

Meanwhile, V3 also supports automatic object focus detection and switching, film-style skin optimization, and cinema-like color processing. This makes Vivo the first Android phone maker to record cinema-quality 4K video with post-processing capabilities.

The company also released the Vivo Origin Imaging Engine (VOIE), which improves image quality, color, sound and computational capabilities.

In cooperation with the German optical company Zeiss, Vivo announced the development of a new standard periscope lens “Vario-Apo-Sonnar” that offers high-quality zoom and macro capabilities.

Recent data from research firm Canalys showed that in the second quarter of this year, Vivo was China's largest smartphone vendor in terms of shipment volume, with a market share of 18 percent.

During this period, total smartphone shipments into the Chinese market were around 64.3 million units, down 5% year-on-year.
