(WXYZ) -- Shakespeare, a Detroit-based nonprofit, is bringing its outdoor show to Martius Park on campus. This free show is supported by the Gilbert Family Foundation and centers on a technological adaptation of William Shakespeare's play, The Tempest.
"Downtown Detroit's public spaces, including Campus Martius Park, are world-class destinations locally and nationally, hosting more than 2,000 free annual events hosted by the Downtown Detroit Partnership, many with special partners," said Eric B. "We are extremely proud to offer programs like Shakespeare in Detroit," Larson, executive director of the Downtown Detroit Partnership, said in a statement. Light up downtown Detroit for all to enjoy by promoting, supporting and enhancing it. We are proud to continue our mission of connecting people, places and parks.
This techno take on The Tempest is set in the late '80s and early '90s and is narrated from the perspective of a Detroit DJ. The production references classic television series like The New Dance Show and features local Detroit artists and actors from Actors' Equity.

This is a special chapter for Shakespeare in Detroit as it celebrates its 10th anniversary in the Motor City.
Sam White, founder of Shakespeare Detroit, said: “During my discussions with Eric Larson of the Downtown Detroit Partnership, he fully embraced my vision and supported the idea of using 2023 as a springboard to bigger things. "The conversation we had about launching a full summer Shakespeare festival in Detroit gives me strength and confidence in our future, especially our youth and professional programs."
Shakespeare in Detroit will take place on August 11, 12, 13, 18, 19 and 20 at 7:30 pm at Campus Martius Park. For more information, click here.
