After premiering on Skylight Row in downtown Los Angeles in February 2022, Insomniac Events and Skyline's two-day techno festival has caused a stir on the dance festival circuits.
This year's festival will take place from Saturday, February 25 through Sunday, February 26 at its new home at the Los Angeles Fairgrounds. The event was organized by techno brand Insomniac Factory 93 and its musical counterpart Day Trip, who collaborated. Feature top artists from both genres. After selling out its first event last year with over 7,000 fans in attendance, Insomniac took all of the fan feedback to heart, including requests for more space to regularly dance and enjoy the shows. New digs at the fairgrounds provide plenty of additional space and bring the event closer to the city
“We were looking for downtown venues that fit the skyline theme and we found Expo Park,” said Megan Dechen, Insomniac's head of talent and festivals, in a recent phone interview. "We were there with the team and fell in love with the setting. There are trees and grass which makes it more comfortable for everyone. The staging will also be better this year because the space is more tall. So we thought that was the perfect setup."
For Deschen, the approach to the Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles was a "return to (Insomniac's) roots" for EDC (Electric Daisy Carnival), which was held at the iconic venue from 2007 to 2010 in Vegas. .
"It's a bit nostalgic," he said. "Being so close, it's good to be back."
The newly designed festival offers views to the west and east. The west side is for house music and the east side for techno artists.
While Insomniac already hosts more than a dozen annual festivals in Southern California, Skyline fits Insomniac's roster perfectly, with Day Trip and Factory 93 already hosting additional stages at major events like EDC and Hard. Summer. Dischen says it makes sense to bridge the gap between house and techno, two similar but different subgenres of electronic music.
He added, "Audiences in this community really love going to art shows or homes, so we thought we'd bring them together." "It fits perfectly with the Insomniac family because Day Trip and Factory 93 have done a lot. We wanted to do both genres in the same place, so it's special for us because it's a little more intimate, but at the same time it's also the kind with artists and activity. Good size."
Visitors can expect more on-site activities, art installations, food trucks, and bars throughout the event space. Guests in the VIP area also have access to the stylish espresso and martini bar.
“At the end of the day, we love that the DJ is spinning and everyone is coming together for the same purpose – to have a good time and enjoy the music,” Deschine said.
