After last week's first developer preview of Android 14 and the release of tons of information about the release date and features, we have more good news for those who use downloaded apps or prefer third-party app stores.

  • Android 14 will better accommodate third-party app stores.
  • With the Play Store and Google coming under fire in recent years, Google has announced several changes to accommodate third-party app stores.
  • According to XDA Developers and Mishaal Rahman, there are some new features in Android 14 that will make third-party app stores easier to use.
  • It includes a new API that allows third-party app stores to perform "soft updates" without impacting the user experience. The API can be used to delay app updates when using that app.
  • Google also implements an API for a third-party app store to require user approval before installing an update. According to XDA-Developers, this can be useful when new permissions are introduced with an app update, since users are prompted first.
  • Finally, the new Update Property feature allows a third-party app store to be the sole source of automatic updates for a given app, although the option is limited to first-time installation through a third-party app store.

Did you know that Valentine's Day commemorates the beating and beheading of the saint? On February 14, 270, the Roman priest Valentinus was beaten and beheaded by Emperor Claudius II for performing wedding ceremonies.

  • We don't know the exact date of his death, but it was on or around February 14.
  • There are actually several stories about the origin of Valentine's Day, but we may never know the truth due to the poorly recorded history.
  • The grisly story also includes the dismembered body parts of the priest, the remains of which are said to be kept in various temples in different countries.
  • It's a far cry from the hearts and flowers of our modern day celebration.
  • While Americans are expected to spend about $26 billion on Valentine's Day, according to the National Retail Federation, the holiday is the second-biggest spender since the NRS began tracking it in 2004.
