Techno Marching Band MEUTE Drops ‘Taumel
MEUTE is an 11-piece techno brass band that produces techno, house and deep house music from renowned producers. In addition to the original works, successful compositions for brass band instruments were composed. MEUTE TAUMEL was released on Friday, November 18.
The 12-track opus features thrilling techno, deep house sounds, energetic beats, incredible instrumentals and more. In fact, the band from Hamburg, Germany is proving to bring a distinct sound to dance music.
According to trumpeter Thomas Burhorn, who founded the band in 2015, TAUMEL means lineage in German. The German word can also mean vertigo or euphoria. There is also the word Freudentamel, which means to enter into ecstasy, so there is ambiguity in TAUMEL .
"It has to do with a lot of feelings you have when you're having trouble and losing control of everything," he says. "Sometimes it can be beautiful...it can fall from joy and depression. It describes our situation over the past two years where [Covid-19] has shut down all traditional forms of life around the world."
According to Borhorn, the LP track "Peace" is about inner peace, peace with the environment and peace between nations - a word particularly in demand these days. He says, “We want peace in the world, and I think a lot of people around the world don't understand why humanity doesn't find a way to bring peace to the world. Even if it sounds a bit romantic or naive, that's what we fight for: world peace. That's why we travel the world and we want to show that there is no reason between countries.
“[Music] is a universal thing,” he added. "It's for everyone. We've never known that there's no sound between our music and the people. So in every country, whether we're in the United States, Poland, in Thailand, France or elsewhere, we always hear the same sound, and we're pretty sure that's what we want - a voice between people.
Borhorn says the band was formed because he is a trumpeter and a fan of brass and techno. The violinist is used to going to wild parties, "That feeling when there's a DJ on stage and the vibe is more exciting and fun at night and the crowd...feels good." Although there is nothing on stage, he adds, there is only one DJ, adding that he thinks the mood is in the music. He formed the band because he thought it was "fun and cool" to play a live band playing the same music as the DJ, especially low-tech.
"See, there's a whole world around techno band music, we're the first to know what's going on in that universe," Bearhorn said. "That's the idea...it's part of our philosophy."
