Amazon has rolled out another round of discounts on Samsung storage devices, leaving many of our recommended microSD cards and SSDs at their lowest-ever prices. Among the highlights, the 1TB version of the Samsung 980 Pro solid-state drive has dropped to $100, which is about $25 below the average price over the past few months and more than $10 over Black Friday -price lies. (Amazon incorrectly lists the 980 SSD as standard, but it's an updated model.) This offering is also available from B&H.
Earlier this year, Samsung released an updated 990 Pro solid-state drive, and in general, not everyone needs the faster speeds of a PCIe 4.0 drive like this. Still, for under $100, the 980 Pro is a good value for those looking to build a more powerful gaming PC. This SSD also meets Sony's requirements for expanding PlayStation 5 storage, although you'll need to add a heatsink for it to work properly. If you're looking for a PS5 specifically, it's probably worth paying a little more for the model with a built-in heatsink, which costs $112, which is below its lowest price point.
In the meantime, if you're looking to save money for a less intensive build, the $90 1TB 970 Evo Plus is well worth it. Aside from a drop to $84 in April, this is the lowest price we've seen for a featured PCIe 3.0 drive.
Additionally, the Evo Select 128GB microSD card is available for $14, which is only 50 cents off and a few dollars cheaper than what we saw on Black Friday. This price is also available in the Samsung online store. Again, it's not the fastest option, but its U3 speeds are more than enough if you're looking to add space to a device like the Nintendo Switch or Steam Deck. If you need more speed for capturing 4K video, consider getting the 256GB Pro Plus card for $25 -- that's also the best price we've seen. The T7 Shield, on the other hand, is a portable SSD that we recommend for those looking for a more robust design; At $90 for 1TB, that's $9 above the all-time low, but still $10 below the Black Friday price.
