OPPO Find X7 Ultra Review: The Most Versatile Camera Smartphone In The World

OPPO Find X7 Ultra Review: The Most Versatile Camera Smartphone In The World

OPPO Find X7 Ultra is the company's latest flagship smartphone. This phone is the direct successor to the OPPO Find X6 Pro as the company decided to drop the “Pro” name this year. The name "Ultra" seems to be gaining popularity these days, and just looking at this phone and its specs, the name is quite apt. But does the device meet our expectations? Well, you'll have to read our full OPPO Find X7 Ultra review below for more details, but...spoiler alert...it really does.

This smartphone builds on what the OPPO Find X6 Pro offers with many improvements. This applies to phone design, camera performance, and even software. The OPPO Find X7 Ultra is a good device and it was a pleasure to review it, that's for sure. Anyway, let's get down to business, starting with the design of the phone.

summary

OPPO Find X7 Ultra review: Hardware/Design

Once you look at this phone, you will know that it is OPPO Find X6 Pro and there is a shiny Oreo camera on the back that extends slightly towards the front. There's a good reason for this, but we'll get to that in the camera section. It has four cameras, as well as a clearly visible Hasselblad logo. Around the Oreo camera is a pattern with a band reminiscent of old school cameras.

You will notice that the back of the phone is divided into two parts. The lower two thirds of the backrest are covered in vegan leather. In our particular case, the skin is vegetable brown, but blue and black are also available. The top third of the phone's back is taken up by the Oreo camera, and the glass is designed to look like metal (intentionally). At one point, the Oreo capsule sits on top of the vegan skin, creating a beautiful arch design that I personally find stunning.

Vegan leather not only looks great, it also serves a practical purpose.

Oppo Find X7 Ultra, photo 3

The vegan leather on the back also serves a practical purpose: traction. If OPPO only used glass, the phone would be more slippery, which is not a good combination. So if you want, you can use it without a case. And for those who dare, it's a shame to highlight this design. The Oreo camera is also useful because it supports your index finger when you hold the device. I also noticed this on the OPPO Find N3. It's kind of a perk and I really appreciate it.

If you turn the phone over, you'll see a big, beautiful curved screen. There is a camera hole at the top center and the bezels are very thin. But unfortunately, it is still not uniform. The top and bottom panels are slightly thicker than the side panels, which is not easy to notice.

The top and bottom of the phone are flat but with rounded edges, making holding the phone more comfortable. The sides are also well polished and fit the curved screen perfectly. At the bottom is the SIM tray, as well as the Type-C port, the main speaker and one of the microphones. On the top, you'll find another speaker, an infrared vacuum, and a noise-cancelling microphone.

On the left is the warning slider.

On the left side of the phone is the alert slider. This is a 3 stage slider that is truly balanced and locks into place. The hike isn't that difficult either. Basically, it's the perfect balance. High mode activates silent mode, middle mode activates vibrate mode, and low mode puts the phone in ring mode. On the right side you will find the power/lock button and above that the volume buttons. All of these keys feel nice and clicky.

This smartphone is also IP68 certified for water and dust resistance, in case you were wondering. Overall, this is a very good package that's hard to pass up, although it certainly won't appeal to everyone. The phone is excellent and very comfortable to hold and use.

Case included

OPPO Find X7 Ultra comes with a box. Since we were reviewing the brown version of the phone, it came with an orange brown body. This is an ordinary rubber box, nothing special about it. The important point is that it provides adequate protection. So this will work fine until you find something more unique that fits your needs. This will actually work great if you want to use a rubber sheet. It doesn't have much grip, but it provides enough protection for the screen and cameras.

OPPO Find X7 Ultra review: Display

The OPPO Find X7 Ultra has a magnificent 6.82-inch screen. It is an LTPO AMOLED panel that can display up to a billion colors. The refresh rate varies between 1 and 120 Hz and is adaptive. This panel supports HDR10+ content, Dolby Vision and the resolution you get is 3168 x 1440. Additionally, the panel gets very bright. The theoretical maximum brightness is 4,500 lumens. In fact, it won't reach that level, because with regular use you'll get up to 1600 nits and up to 2600 nits with HDR content. The panel is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2.

Simply put, this screen is...amazing

Those are impressive specs, but what about actual usage and experience? This screen is exceptional in almost every way. You have to start somewhere, so let me talk about brightness first. Don't worry because the screen is bright enough even outdoors under direct sunlight. With the sun getting a little closer during these winter months, I never felt the need for this screen to be brighter, not even close. The panel's tactile response was excellent. He was very responsive and received my feedback very quickly. Once that happened, everything ran very smoothly thanks to the high refresh rate. OPPO has done a great job adapting everything here.

Oppo Find X7 Ultra photo 37

The vibrant colors and HDR content look great.

It goes without saying that this screen is also very sharp, very sharp in fact. It's accurate enough that it's not a problem either. Colors are really vibrant and blacks are as deep as you would expect. I also found the color reproduction to be quite accurate and HDR content in particular looks great. The viewing angles here are also excellent. Be careful though, the plate is curved. You don't see much curvature here, but it's noticeable. The camera hole in the center of the screen is at the top and the bezels surrounding this panel are very thin. However, keep in mind that it is not standardized. The top and bottom panels are slightly thicker than the sides, although many people don't notice this. However, the screen-to-body ratio here is just over 90%.

that's all. This screen is excellent in almost everything. I didn't notice anything to criticize and had a great time using the panel. I also didn't have any accidental clicks or anything like that, so that's always a plus. This is one of the best programs currently.

OPPO Find X7 Ultra review: performance

OPPO Find X7 Ultra is powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, Qualcomm's most powerful processor to date. The variant we reviewed also has 16GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. Note that OPPO also launched a 12GB RAM model and a 16GB RAM model with less storage (256GB for both). In all versions, the company used LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 flash memory. With this in mind, the performance of the OPPO Find X7 Ultra is unmatched. It was impressive throughout my use, in all scenarios. I never experienced any lag even while gaming. This thing made it through Genshin Impact without issue, which is what I expected.

The performance is smooth in every way, shape and form.

Some phones struggle to perform more trivial tasks, but that's not the problem here. Multitasking worked very well, applications launched quickly and other daily tasks were no problem either. I'll talk about the software itself in another section, but in terms of performance, the phone did an excellent job. It was never hot. It was pretty hot when I tried Genshin Impact and some of the other more intense matches, but once I started chess, everything changed. When I say warm, I mean you'll feel warm, but it's not uncomfortable or anything like that. More importantly, it didn't affect performance in any way.

I'm not a fan of running tests on any device. It's never the best indicator of a phone's performance, but it at least gives you a general idea of how powerful the device is. Below you will find three different tests. The first is Geekbench, which gives a general idea of how powerful the phone is, and this is where the OPPO Find X7 Ultra's performance gets interesting. It performed significantly worse than the Galaxy S24 Ultra in the single-core and multi-core sections, but comfortably outperformed it in the GPU department. It's possible that OPPO's software could do its job here and get more power from the GPU when running benchmarks.

The second test is the 3D Wildlife Extreme Stress Test. This is more useful because the simulation is supposed to be done using the phone. It runs continuous cycles of simulated usage, 20 of them, which puts the phone into a state of disarray. You can see the phone's average performance, best cycle, and stability during testing.

The last test concerns exporting videos. We do the same thing on the phones we test. We use CapCut and export the video in Full HD at 30 frames per second. However, the video in its original form is much clearer. The OPPO Find X7 Ultra performed very well here.

OPPO Find X7 Ultra review: Battery

OPPO Find X7 Ultra is equipped with a 5,000 mAh battery. This is the standard for large flagship smartphones these days. This is the same battery capacity as the OPPO Find X6 Pro, and the chip inside the OPPO Find X7 Ultra is supposed to be more power efficient. Is it noticeable here? Well, the truth is that we saw almost identical autonomy to the OPPO Find X6 Pro, but it's not bad at all.

I was able to spend more than 8 hours in front of the screen.

With regular daily usage, I was able to get over 8 hours of screen time on the OPPO Find X7 Ultra. Some days were a little weird in terms of battery life, but those were just the first few days. Since then, daily use of a screen for more than 8 hours has no longer posed a problem. Of course, I can remove it faster by running demanding games, setting the screen brightness to maximum, etc. I'm talking here about my usage, my standard usage. So if you want to use 100 brightness, play games, etc., you'll get much worse results than that.

The move from Wi-Fi to 5G hasn't affected battery life much

It's worth noting that I spend most of my day connected to Wi-Fi, although for two days I used 5G 90% of the time and didn't notice much of an impact on battery life. battery life, which is huge. I processed photos and videos, browsed pages, watched media via YouTube, took tons of photos, streamed music from YouTube Music and much more. None of the measures I mentioned had a significant impact on battery life. If an app drains your battery too quickly, your phone will alert you and suggest ways to improve it.

It can be fully charged in less than half an hour.

What about payload? Well, full loading here is a breeze. According to my tests, you can reach 100% in 26 minutes. I'm talking 120W charging using the included adapter. Wireless charging is also very fast at 50W, I haven't tested it yet, but I'm sure it's fast enough and can charge the phone in less than an hour. You also get 5W reverse wireless charging in case you need to charge the earbuds wirelessly or otherwise.

OPPO Find X7 Ultra review: camera

This is probably the part that interests many of you the most. Ultimately, the OPPO Find X7 Ultra is a camera-centric smartphone. OPPO calls this phone a quad-camera smartphone. because? Well, the company wanted to ensure excellent image quality from all four cameras and mainly focused on the 0.6-10x zoom range. OPPO wants you to take photos with 6x zoom (the second periscope camera) with the same confidence as with 1x zoom (the main camera). The important point, of course, is not to lose too much quality in the process. Did this happen here? Well, we'll come back to that later. Let's take a look at the camera hardware first.

There are four 50-megapixel cameras on the back, and they're all very capable.

OPPO Find X7 Ultra has 50-megapixel quad rear cameras. Note that this is the first smartphone on the market to use Sony's new LYT-900 camera sensor. It is also the first smartphone with a dual periscope telephoto lens. Meanwhile, the phone's main camera is a 50-megapixel unit with a 1-inch sensor (Sony LYT-900). It has an f/1.8 aperture lens and supports OIS. OPPO also claims that you will get 50% less reflections compared to the previous model (OPPO Find X6 Pro). We are considering a focal length of 23mm here.

Oppo Find X7 Ultra photo 70

The 50 MP ultra-wide-angle camera uses a Sony LYT-600 sensor. This camera has a 14mm equivalent focal length and we're looking at a 1.95-inch sensor. It uses an f/2.0 aperture lens and this camera has a focal length of 4 cm, so it can also shoot close-ups. The front camera has a resolution of 50 megapixels with a Sony IMX890 sensor. This is a 1.56-inch sensor and we're looking at a 65mm focal length here. This camera has a 3x optical zoom. This camera has a focal length of 25cm and an f/2.6 aperture with Prism optical image stabilization. The rear camera is another 50 MP telephoto lens with 6x optical zoom. It's a 2.51-inch Sony IMX858 sensor and the focal length we're looking at here is 135mm. This camera has a focal length of 35cm and an aperture of f/4.3 with Prism optical image stabilization.

OPPO's HyperTone processing changes that

OPPO has placed a lot of emphasis on “good digital photography” with these cameras. The company wanted these cameras to perfectly capture highlights and shadows while maintaining rich midtones. This is not an easy task, especially if you want to get high-quality images. That's why OPPO added something called "HyperTone" to the mix. This is essentially the company's image processing software, although some of it is of course also hardware dependent. This is one area where the OPPO Find X6 Pro sometimes fails and OPPO wanted to fix it. Was it successful? Well, from what I saw in testing, yes, definitely. The difference with HyperTone is easily noticeable and this phone is ideal for photography. Let's go.

During testing, I took over 400 photos with the OPPO Find X7 Ultra. Of course, you won't see them all in this review because that would be confusing. However, I have included several images below for you to view. My first conclusion was that the phone did a very good job of balancing the color palette across sensors. This is an area where many phones fail. Most of the time, photos taken with the main camera and the ultra-wide-angle camera appear to be taken from the same device, and the same goes for the other two cameras.

Night mode activates on its own, but can be deactivated.

Before we talk about each camera individually, it's also worth noting that the phone independently detects low-light situations; There is no special mode that can be activated manually. However, once the phone recognizes low light mode, you can turn it off in the viewfinder. You can do the same with macro photography, as the OPPO Find X7 Ultra can instantly enable macro photography when it is not needed. However, from a low-light perspective, it does a great job of recognizing when needed. The camera's aperture is very fast, although I think it could be a fraction of a second faster. This is the main camera hardware the phone needs to work with, so… keep that in mind. The camera also has a Hasselblad “Master” mode, although I didn’t really use it. This darkens images and adds vignettes. However, if you need more interesting images, this might be useful.

AH OPPO Find X7 Ultra photo 73

The main camera is the star of the show and takes balanced photos in all scenarios.

As for the main camera, the photos look great. These are some of the best photos I've taken with any camera. Honestly, this applies to both good and bad lighting. Images appear saturated, with great colors, without oversaturation or oversaturation. Even when the light was very dim indoors, the phone took a photo of my dog and cat, which is common for many smartphones due to their fur... especially when there is little light around them. The Find X7 Ultra succeeds not only in this aspect but also in portrait mode. He tends to keep images more realistic, making them darker if they are darker in real life, and doesn't try to brighten the scene to the point that it looks too unrealistic.

The phone's super-fast camera handles color preservation the same as the main camera most of the time. I was able to fool it several times in low light conditions, when there were lots of neon signs, and in the afternoon, when the sun was hitting the room at an odd angle. However, it can't be perfect, so... yeah. However, photos from the ultra-tall rotunda look great even in low light conditions.

Dual reach phone mounts provide all the versatility you need.

Oh, Oppo Find X7 Ultra, image 53

I had high hopes for this smartphone, but I thought the 3x and 6x zoom cameras wouldn't perform as well. I was able to take great photos and images with both cameras...in low light conditions. Only one light was on at night and a television worked. That's it, the cameras did a great job. I've never taken portraits with a 6x zoom in low light and would be willing to use it as is, effortlessly...until now. The Find X7 Ultra manages to balance these images, as you can see in the examples below. I have divided them into several galleries. Even with 10x zoom, the phone managed to maintain excellent results in low light conditions, whereas everything above, in such conditions, was of lower quality, but still usable. As for the 20x and 30x images, they can be used during the day. The synthetic type is much less clear than that of Find

Skin tones were also the same no matter what camera I used and lighting conditions. The phone also includes real-time HDR preview, something not found on many phones. It's also worth noting that when shooting with the main camera in many low-light situations, there will be no lag. This sensor is very large and can capture a lot of light. Even with other cameras, the phone takes photos very quickly in low light conditions.

Find X7 Ultra Phone Review: Software

The Find X7 Ultra comes with Android 14 out of the box. Additionally, you will find the OPPO Coloros 14, which is very similar to the ONEPLUS Oxygenos. The Coloros 14 is really great, as is the Coloros 13. I prefer to use its global version to avoid many Chinese apps and services, but this device is still only launched in China, so... that's it. Possess. The good news is that you can choose what you want to install when setting up the phone. Therefore, you can avoid the vast majority of these apps in the first place. Unfortunately, you will probably still encounter Chinese menus when using the phone.

You will have to install the Google Play Store manually, but after that everything will work fine.

However, once everything is configured, the program will work perfectly. This phone supports Google Play Services, although you may need to install the Google Play Store manually, depending on where you purchased the phone. If it's not already installed, you'll need to go to one of the APK repositories, grab the APK, install it, and everything will be back to normal. Just install the necessary apps from the Google Play Store and you're done. However, there is one big caveat when it comes to the Chinese version of Coloro... it has limitations on background notification services. There is nothing like this in the global version.

Colors AH Oppo Find X7 Ultra, photo 4

Unfortunately, application automation has limitations.

If this seems a little confusing, let me explain. Go to Settings -> Apps -> Car Menu and you'll see which apps require auto-launch, depending on the phone. If the show understands that, all the better. It has been recognized that these applications need to be automated to provide timely notifications. However, if the application is not recognized, it is in a separate section of this list. The section is titled “Setting the following options will save electricity.” The fact is that all applications in this list are disabled by default and you can enable a maximum of five. For example, Google Drive, Gmail, Huawei Health (for my smartwatch), Google Keep, Google Meet, my banking app, Slack, Google Tasks and many others are offline by default. I can enable a maximum of 5 of these apps, which means I will include push notifications for some of them.

Note that there is a menu called Connected Home, which works similarly, but for different purposes, and can also lock individual apps in multitasking mode. This number is also limited. Overall, if you need a lot of apps other than messaging to access notifications and work easily in the background, the Chinese version of Coloro might be a problem. The overall version in this sense is more disappointing as I see with the Find N3. Of course, this phone still runs Android 13 with Colors 13.2, but in that sense the impression is almost the same.

The animation is great, but I needed to speed it up a bit.

Now that we're done with that, it's worth noting that the rest of the program works fine. Once you have it set up, you will find it, to say the least, very useful. In this phone everything is very smooth and the animations are excellent. It was too slow for me, as it is on almost every phone I've used, so I decided to speed it up a bit using the developer settings. However, the animation is superb.

Coloros 14 allows you to place applications in the application panel or display them all on the screen (this is the default option). The notification panel and keyboard shortcuts are not separated into different sections, which I really like. The software looks unique in terms of design and you can choose many options here. They are all standard. You can double tap to lock or turn on the screen. There's an alarm clock, split screen works as expected, you can even activate it with gestures, etc.

Includes many visual configuration options.

AH Oppo Find X7 Ultra 58 image colors

The Background and Style menu offers a variety of settings. You can let the phone choose colors for UI elements in the background (this is an Android feature). You can also change the font and badges, choose a different theme, use the always-on display and its settings, change the fingerprint animation, and even change the appearance of widgets. There are other configuration options, but these are the main ones. Coloros 14 also lets you change the home screen grid if you want, and you can swipe down on the screen (from top to bottom) to open the notification panel.

As in previous versions of Coloro, this version has a “smart sidebar”. Swiping your finger from the right edge to the center of the screen on any screen will take you to the Smart Side panel. This menu displays several (configurable) applications and from there you can open the application window or use split screen. It is easy to access and very useful. There's also an "Easy Mode" you can use for visually and hearing impaired people, as well as "Flexible Window" and "Special Vision" settings. It is mainly designed for small applications and split-screen windows. Driving mode is also available here.

Coloros 14 is also equipped with security and privacy features.

AH Oppo Find X7 Ultra 47 image colors

Coloros 14 also has several security and privacy features. Oppo's default gallery has plenty of editing options, and there's even a special option for deleting photos of people, animals, and various objects. All you have to do is place your finger on the object in the image and the program will do its job. It actually works very well. It works well on Samsung and Apple devices. This is not new, but it might be useful to some of you.

There's nothing I don't like about Coloros. People love to hate it because it's different from native Android, but it's actually much closer to it now than it was a few years ago. Even the notification panel now looks great and everything is nicely separated. I still don't like keyboard shortcuts taking up half the screen when viewing notifications. Plus, it's annoying that slow swiping of notifications doesn't always give the expected result. There are other little things that are different from what I'm used to. These are just minor differences that won't bother most of you.

It's a shame that the global version is not available, but this version works very well.

Overall, Coloros is back on Android and definitely worth a look if you haven't used it yet. Of course, the global version is the best, but this version works fine once configured. Just keep in mind that you might be a little limited in launching apps automatically.

Find X7 Ultra: Is it worth buying?

Should you buy the OPPO Find x7 Ultra? Well, the answer to this question would have been completely different if the phone had had a global version. It must therefore be imported, and there is also a Chinese version of Coloros. Of course, the experience will be better in the global version. However, even in this case, this phone is really unique and may have to be imported, if possible. It shines in almost all aspects. It is a smartphone with an unusual camera, one of the best. The maximum quality covers all levels of the scale from 0.6 to 10 times. He looks great, stands perfectly in your hand, not to mention the fact that he is superb. The battery life is excellent, the load is very fast, etc. There are so many things that I could love and on which I cannot insist too much. The Oppo Find X7 Ultra is undoubtedly a pretender for the title of best smartphone of the year. Oppo said he did not intend to launch him around the world, but we really hope that the company will change their mind. It would be a shame not to share this smartphone with the world.

You must buy Find X7 Ultra Oppo if:

... I love its unique design and its real leather panels.
... do not pay attention to the large frame at the back of the camera
... I want one of the most powerful cameras on the market
... you need a long -lasting battery and a quick wireless load
... I don't want to buy a charger separately
... for example, Coloros and its capacities
… Evaluate the big smartphone screens
... must be protected from water and dust

You shouldn't buy Oppo Find X7 Ultra if:

... I don't want to take care of the Chinese version of Coloros
... You have no problem importing the device because it is not available outside China.
