Vivo V29 Pro Review

Vivo V29 Pro Review

introduction

Vivo has another premium mid-range model made in India with an Indian design – the vivo V29 Pro. Like the previous models of the V series, the V29 Pro also pays a lot of attention to photography. The V29 Pro expands on the previous model's 'Aura Light' concept with special color-changing lighting on the back, a dedicated portrait telephoto lens and an ultra-high-resolution display.

The new Aura Light app has a separate dedicated set of LEDs (15.6mm in diameter) that can automatically adjust its temperature based on the ambient light, and you can also adjust it manually if needed. It is said to be 36% brighter than the previous generation.

While the V27 Pro's dedicated 2MP macro camera is gone, there is a 12MP portrait camera with 2x zoom. There weren't any other V-series phones, so that's a big change. The Sony IMX663 sensor has "dual-core full-pixel" autofocus, which helps it in the dark.

Next on the list of key improvements is the screen, which remains unchanged at 6.78 inches. Still, it's a pretty high-quality panel, with a resolution of 1260 x 2800 pixels delivering a density of 453 ppi, so you can expect extra sharpness.

vivo has made sure that the size of the V29 Pro is relatively slim at 7.5mm. Battery capacity should have remained at 4,600mAh, but if the V27 Pro is any indication, that's more than enough. Charging power is now 80W instead of the V27 Pro's 66W spec, but those power numbers don't mean much, so we'll see how charging speeds compare.

Vivo chose not to upgrade its chipset and the V29 Pro uses the same MediaTek Dimensity 8200 chip as the V27 Pro. It should still beat the vanilla Snapdragon 778G from the Vivo V29. Speaking of the classic V29: one of its most important innovations is the IP68 degree of protection. Interestingly, the V29 Pro is also built to strict durability requirements, but somehow doesn't have an official intrusion rating.

Remove from packaging

The Vivo V29 Pro comes in a full-size gray packaging that highlights the Aura feature with a large shiny circle around the phone's name. This is a very durable two-piece case with a nice phone holder inside.

Vivo does not skimp on the packaging of its devices. First of all, you get an 80W Vivo FlashCharge charger and an accompanying USB Type-A to Type-C cable. The cable looks completely normal, without additional contacts, so it does not need to be carefully routed. The retail packaging of the V29 Pro doesn't skimp on protection either. A factory-applied screen protector is paired with a transparent body to reduce concerns about the physical health of the device.
