Tecno Is The Latest Brand To Unfurl A Rollable Phone Concept
Tecno just introduced the concept of a foldable phone that slides to the sides.
Called the Phantom Ultimate, the screen expands from 6.55 inches to 7.11 inches with a motor.
When the device is folded, the extra part of the screen remains on the back and is used as an always-on display.
Although foldable devices like the Galaxy Z Fold 5 are commonplace today, we're still a long way from a foldable phone where the screen is attached to the body. LG showed off a version of its foldable phone a few years ago, and Motorola did the same at MWC this year. Tecno is the latest brand to do the same, with the Chinese manufacturer unveiling its own foldable phone.
Called the Phantom Ultimate, the foldable phone uses a tilting system that allows the display to expand from 6.55 inches to 7.11 inches with the push of a button. The screen turns on in just 1.2-1.3 seconds, and the effect, as you can imagine, is very impressive. Check it out here, courtesy of GSMArena.
As for the display itself, you're looking at a 7.11-inch LTPO AMOLED display with a resolution of 2296 x 1596. Tecno claims it covers 100% of DCI-P3 colors. What's particularly cool about the Ultimate is that when you take the device out, the extra screen area wraps around the back and acts as an always-on display.
There's a textured back that Tecno says is designed to make the phone easier to hold, and the device measures 9.93mm. Like all new products up to this point, the Phantom Ultimate is just a concept and won't be in production anytime soon. This may change in the coming years as revenues from foldable displays become viable enough for consumer use, but until then we have such unique devices.
