Vivo Is The First To Market With A Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Phone

The start of the 2022 smartphone season is upon us. Qualcomm has already announced its 2023 flagship chipset, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, which means Android smartphone makers are in a race to bring out the next-gen phones. A week after the Snapdragon chip was officially unveiled and teased as usual, Vivo announced the X90 Pro+, which is expected to be the world's first phone with Qualcomm's all-new SoC. The Vivo X90 series consists of three phones including the X90 and X90 Pro. All the phones have impressive hardware with a focus on camera performance.

Vivo equipped the entire X90 series with a 6.78-inch AMOLED display, 50 MP primary camera, dual 5G SIM, and OriginOS 3 based on Android 13. The Vivo X90 Pro Plus stands out among the three phones with its quad-camera setup. configuration and high-resolution screen. It is also expected to be the first phone with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Oppo has the honor of introducing the world's first Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 phone, but there is no word yet on when it will be released.

The most interesting phone in the lineup is the Vivo X90 Pro Plus, which features a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, a 64MP periscope camera with 3.5x zoom, and an ultrasonic 3D fingerprint scanner (via GSMArena). The phone is equipped with a massive 1-inch 50-megapixel Sony IMX989 Zeiss camera, the same sensor found in the Xiaomi 12S Ultra.

A suite of Vivo software features like horizon correction, lens flare portrait mode, astrophotography mode and 100x hybrid zoom complete the camera setup. The phone can also record 8K video at 30 fps with support for Dolby Vision and LOG10. The company equipped the phone with ISP V2 for image processing. It has 45MB of SRAM and delivers 16 TOPS per watt. The whole thing is powered by a 4800mAh battery with support for 80W wired fast charging and 50W wireless charging.

The Vivo X90 Pro Plus will cost around $910 in China, with pre-orders starting on November 28. Retail sales are scheduled for December 6.

Vivo X90 and Vivo X90 Pro

These phones have a MediaTek Dimensity 9200 chip, 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal memory UV 4.0. The main difference between the two is the rear camera setup: the regular X90 has a 50MP main camera, a 50MP portrait camera and a 12MP ultra-wide camera. On the Pro model, you get larger 50MP main and vertical sensors, which should help in low-light situations. There are other minor differences from the Pro+ model that help keep the price of these phones in check.

The Vivo X90 and X90 Pro are now available for pre-order, with the former priced at 4,499 yuan ($615) and the latter at 5,499 yuan ($775). The regular model will go on sale on November 30, while the Plus will go on sale alongside the Pro Plus on December 6.
